I have a new blog: https://maiaowl.wordpress.com/
Those of you who've been following me on Tumblr, that is now closed down and the new one replaces it. Granted, it's a fair bit of fangirling still ;o) But I do post other things as well.
Hope you'll stop by - take care everyone! XXX

Spring in Oslo
Hope everyone´s having a lovely Easter :)
This is the best time to stay in the city, if you ask me. Everyone´s up in the mountains, so things are peaceful and quiet for those of us who aren´t cabin people. Yesterday was gorgeous, so my mother and myself decided on a little forest/city stroll. ( Read more...Collapse )
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

A day in the life
Ooo yes, she updates twice in a month. I´m guessing that impresses nobody but me.
This is an entry I´ve been thinking about doing for a while and which was inspired by ashes_to_roses
who did the same thing some time ago. I just really enjoyed that entry so I figured I´d give it a try. I opted for a rather quiet and uneventful Friday mind you, basically just to see if I did manage to get through it and remember to snap all the pictures you´re supposed to snap. So without further ado, a day in the life, Friday 28th March.( Read more...Collapse )
There we go, hope it wasn´t too boring. If anyone else fancies doing the same, let me know. I really enjoyed this. Happy spring all and finishing off with another Ylvis GIF:

New York January
Updating is still rare, sorry. Let´s see what we can do about it.
It´s been a busy couple of months. At the end of January I went with work to NYC. And here be the proof:
I originally kind of dreaded the 8-hour plane flight as it is my general belief that plane seats are THE most uncomfortable things in the world. They are supposed to be ergonomically correct right? Well then clearly I must be deformed because I have yet to encounter a plane seat that supports me in the right places. I always end up with either my neck and shoulders or the small of my back aching. But enough whining, the flight went surpisingly well, because a) the plane was only half full, leaving us with plenty of room to move. I changed seats so I got two whole seats all by myself, and b) one of the cabin attendants turned out to be a former co-worker of mine, whom I haven´t met in aaaages! We managed to catch up quite a bit in between her getting me free champagne :o) ( Read more...Collapse )
And to round it all off, I´ve decided that one Ylvis GIF a day takes (a lot of) your troubles away.
And because I as always long for summer... bye now!

Top o´the new year to ya :o) Hope everyone enjoyed their hols. I certainly did.
About a week before Christmas I went to Bergen for the weekend to visit a friend. Which was about high time, because I haven´t been in Bergen since I was 12 and Bergen is very probably the prettiest city in all of the land, even in December. The weather was super-icky when I left Oslo, with fog and snow, and I landed in Bergen to 7 degrees and blue skies. My kinda winter!
And also, what a royal treatment I got:
Does anyone else get a 5-star hotel treatment when crashing at a friend´s place? :o)
I also got served a wonderful and chilled Prosecco...
And delicious Christmas food and a lemon mousse with raspberries. Yum!
Not to mention the breakfast the morning after. Ever wondered how a full Scandinavian breakfast should be like? Take notes now.
En the evening we went to a Christmas concert in one of the churches downtown. Now, this was a free concert, but quite frankly it´s one of the loveliest Christmas concerts I´ve ever been to. The sound was fab and so were the performes, among them the lovey Maria Mena who sang this:
This was obviously not filmed by me in the church, but we did have tons of fun (maybe even more fun than you originally are supposed to have in a church, not sure...), as illustrated in this video my me. Do you recognize THIS Christmas song...??
The weekend before Christmas we went out with friends and family for dinner at a restaurant. Dad ate the scary lutefisk. We also went to visit my granmother in Drøbak (a pretty little town about 45 min south of Oslo), which has its own Christmas House that´s open all year round. Obviously it was packed at this time of the year... I got myself this pretty little hand-painted candle holder:
And just a few more snaps of my Christmas lights:
We´ve pretty much been snow-less all winter, to my great delight. I mean, if you´ve seen snowy winter once, you´ve seen´em all in my opinion. We even had sunshine-rain one day, which we ever only experience in the summer! And it produced this pretty thing:
(of course the snow and the freezing temps have arrived NOW, which was inevitable, but still... two months of winter is still better than five!)
All the best for 2014 people!

Happy advent all!
Popping in again to announce that I have nicked a meme (cause it´s been aaaages!) from pleasant_valley
suitable for the season. Here we go:
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
That depends, I like both actually. Some things are just tricky to wrap and then I´d rather buy a pretty gift bag instead of ending up with a bulky and messy wrapped package. 2. Real tree or Artificial?
It must be a real one. 3. When do you put up the tree?
In the afternoon on 23 December.4. When do you take the tree down?
Usually the weekend after New Year.5. Do you like eggnog?
Never tried it and most likely never will. Sounds absolutely disgusting and I´m a bit fussy when it comes to hot drinks. 6. Favorite gift received as a child?
*ponders* Not sure actually… I tend to remember the gifts I got when I was older more. I remember being very excited when I got My Little Pony, but…7. Do you have a nativity scene?
I got a lovely one in ceramic from a neighbor several years back. Problem is it´s really big, so I haven´t put it up the past few years. Pity really – I really should pop up in the attic and get it now. 8. Hardest person to buy for?
My dad. Well, boys in general, but dad is definitely the hardest, especially after he´s started the whole “I don´t really want anything” the past few years. 9. Easiest person to buy for?
Mum or girlfriends.10. Worst Christmas gift ever received?
It would have to be the dolphin candle holder from my grandmother a few years ago. She usually gives money cause she´s old and thinks buying presents is a hassle. Which is fair enough. But some years back she got all inventive and had some help from a lady who owns some kind of a interior/cratfts shop. The result was that we all got the most awful nicknacks. It´s a naughty thing to say, but it´s true, it was all just wasted money. And if anyone is thinking a dolphin candle holder sounds cute: It wasn´t. Trust me. Somehow it never came along with me when we moved. Strange, that. 11. Mail or email Christmas card?
*Squirms* This is when you´re supposed to say cards, right. Yeah well… I´ve received a few cards and sent a few, and as long as it´s only a selected few, I enjoy it. But stacks of paper = clutter. Owlsie logic. 12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Aaaah, hands down! "Reisen til julestjernen" or "Journey to the Christmas star". I know they made a new version last year, which was lovely too, but nothing beats this. NOTHING. In addition… and I know it´s not a movie, but does a ballet counts? Because the Opera´s “Nutcracker” is always a real Xmas jerker: 13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Usually late November/early December.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Never, I´m not THAT bad! I have re-used wrapping though.15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Lefse with butter, cold cuts and mustard.16. Favorite tradition?
Probably spending all morning and early afternoon on the 24th eating the aforementioned lefse, and cookies and watching Xmas movies.
17. Favorite Christmas song?
“Glade jul”, or “Silent night” if you will.
I also really love “Christmas Pipes” by Celtic Woman.18. Travel at Christmas or stay h
Definitely stay at home. At parents ´place more accurately. 19. Can you name Santa's reindeer?
Nope. I know Rudolph. Not really occupied with Santa´s reindeers here, I think he goes by horse and sleigh for the most part, really. 20. Do you have an Angel or a star on top of your tree?
Star with light inside.21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year?
That stores start bringing out the decorations and all the stuff waaayy too early. Argh, I hate the full-on Xmas mood in early November, I don´t want overload weeks and weeks before. Advent starts in December, and I like to keep it limited to that month so the season stays special.
If you decide to do the meme, let me know - it´s fun to see other people´s tranditions :o)
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone and all the best for 2014! XXX

If there be anyone still lurking around here, that is. Yes... 2,5 months since the last update. I´m not proud. And I AM going to pull my act together.
So has winter arrived at your place yet? Surprisingly there is no snow here yet. Colour me puzzled. In a happy way. I suspect it won´t last long, in fact I don´t think it will last much longer than until this evening.
But anyway, it´s definitely been cold here the past month and for my part that really affects... well, everything really. Nails, hair, face, respiratory passages - you name it. Fortunately there are quite a few good products out there, so I figured I´d just show the stuff which helps me through winter:
The Elisabeth Arden 8-hour lip balm has saved my life these past couple of winters. They usually sell them in 3-packs at airport and I always stack up. No other lip treatment comes even close if you ask me.
Ok, so it´s not specifically for winter, but I started using this after being given it by my mum, who for some reason can´t use eye creams (they make her eyes water). But I use it twice a day and it´s lovely!
Now, I absolutely cannot use the same moisturiser in the summer and winter, I always have to go for something richer when the temp´s below zero. And with me having combination skin, it can be difficult to find something that protects you from the cold but at the same time don´t make you break out. I was recommended this cream by a nice sales lady at Malaga airport a few months back and it´sa winner.
Probably one of the most annoying things everrrr with the freezing temps is that my hair gets so bloody electric! I wear my hats and hoods and everything but still I frizz up like some weird alien. AND WE HATESS IT!! And so oil is the word apparently. And this is the real McCoy which I got from a friend from France. You can use it like a leave-in condioner or lately I´ve been bringing it in my purse and I start to get electric (and not in a fun way) I just pour a drop in my palm and stroke it over my hair. Helps a LOT!
I think it can be tricky finding a rich enough hand cream sometimes. The really light and runny ones do nothing for me, but I don´t want the really rich ones which makes you feel like you´re walking around with buttered hands either. My fave ones are the L´Occitane ones, but I´m loving this one from Yves Rocher. Juust perfect. Like a lot of YR stuff :o)
Whops! How did Ylvis get in there!? Oh well... we all know funny guys helps for winter anyway... or for all seasons really :o)
Have a lovely advent all!

Kittens, kittens everywhere!
Been meaning to do this entry for over a week now, so here we go:
As I mentioned in my previous post, I´ve taken to do some volountary work at the animal protection centre for cats here in town. Now, being a full-time working gal that I am, I unfortunately don´t have time to help as often as I would. I´ve only had two shifts so far (each shift is 4 hours, so you can see... it takes half a day) and I´m going back there this Sunday from 1-5 pm.
Of course I´m trying to help as much as I can, so in addition I´ve also bought an annual membership and you can also support one or several cats with a montly figure. So that means I´m paying over NOK 1,500 a year, that´s gotta be worth something, right?
So that means... I got myself an adoptive kitty (I want another one in time too)! Allow me to present Chili! Isn´t she a cutie pie?
(Obviously she had to be approved by The Birman Prince who was very relaxed about it all. I don´t think he cares much for animals.)
In the intro letter I got it said that Chili is a kitty who´s not too outgoing, although she´s very cuddly and likes to chat. She does however get a bit frustrated when you don´t understand what you´re saying. I have to say I didn´t get to talk too much to her the last time I was at the shelter, she was on her way to take a nap as you can see from these pictures.
Moving on to a diffrent cat, namely this one:
(He needs to approve just anything, doesn´t he!)
Now, as a cat-lover, you must have been living under a rock if you haven´t heard of this bestseller, or I should say two, because there is a sequel. The second one came out in the UK this spring and had its debut in the US only last week.
And let me just open my review by saying that these books is a MUST-READ if you love cats!
So basically: Recovering drug addict and street musician meets stray and injured cat, man and cat become friends, cat follows man to work, the crowd is delighted, man and cat get fame and (hopefully by now!) fortune.
As I mentioned, this book is a bestseller and rightly so for three reasons:
1) The strong appeal to cat lovers. I mean, we could just happily read books and books about cats doing... well nothing, right? I know I enjoyed nothing more than reading about Bob munching away on his food, washing his face and then jumped up on the window sill to happily stay there the rest of the day. Or something like that.. but you get my drift.
The more dramatic events in the book, like Bob being scared by something on the street and runs away, I got a lump in my throat from.
2) An utterly perfect and heartwarming description of how strong a bond between human and animal can get and what a difference having a pet can make. I don´t mean to sound condescending in any way, but I´m not sure you can really understand it unless you´ve had a pet yourself. I really believe it is like having a baby and this book describes very well how the support, the affection and especially the feeling of responsibility of another individual´s safety and well-being can change and improve one single person.
3) The last and maybe the most important message of the book: It gives people living and working on the streets a face and a voice. As the author states in the book: When on the streets you become invisible. I´m sure most of us recognise it in ourselves, I know I do - how often don´t you rush past people playing on the streets or selling magazines thinking things like "I don´t have any change right now, I can´t afford to help them all, I don´t dare to stop and/or look at him/her in case he/she´s unstable and violent etc etc". I´ve been guilty of them all. And I´m proud to say this book has changed my aspect.
These days I try to have some change available, and even if I don´t I will at least acknowlede their presence with a nod or a smile. And the times I HAVE been in contact with them, I have found them all to be as pleasant and polite as any seller I might encounter in any shop. Just as pleasant as the writer of this book. Prejudice, all prejudice.
So there you go. I defy anyone who doesn´t fall completely in love with this book after reading it. It´s bound to bring both a smile to your face and tears to your eyes. Go buy it. GO. BUY. IT!!!
I´ll round off this entry with another picture of Murano The One Furry Frodo Cat:

Summer vacation in Oslo
I had my summer holiday last week, and even though globetrotting is my hobby, sometimes it´s just nice to stay at home for a week and do nothing.
Well... not nothing, because no matter what I always end up with a fully booked program. So I thought I´d show some snippets of what I was up to:
First thing´s first, volounteer work at the Animal Protection cat shelter. This MUST be the most grateful job in the world! XXX
Obviously this was just about 6 of the 45 cats that live there, and I don´t even know a handful of their names yet, but the first kitty is Mia. Isn´t she adorable!?! ( Read more...Collapse )
All in all a divine vacation :o)
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Music: Summer faves
Hello LJ-world (provided there are still someone left here - not that I should talk!)
This is basically me dropping by to wish everyone a nice summer! :o)
And while I was at it, I figured I might as well do a wee list, my top five fave songs at the moment. And if you know a little something about me, you will know that this list may or may not be a little bit... original. Yes, I was being diplomatic. Here we go:
1) Mika - We are golden
Came across Mika´s "Grace Kelly" (which I still love) when in Lanzarote in February, and I just really like his music, as well as his style. He´s so crazy and quirky!
2) Gayla Peevy - I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I just... have no idea how this song got stuck in my head. I know, I know! All I know is that I was happily singing along to "Scales and arpeggios" from The Aristocats, and suddenly I was on this video. I blame those naughty kittens!
3) Taylor Swift - I knew you were trouble
Mhmm. She likes Taylor. My fave song is "22" but I´ve been playing this the most lately.
4) Gina G - Fresh!
This is an oldie (mid-90s I think) but it was played during an aerobics class once, and since then I´ve been hooked on it. Always puts me in a summer mood!
5) Madcon - Kjører på
Now, Madcon is just made of awesome, I mean seriously. So in spite of having international success, they really deserve a lot of respect for going on and making an all-Norwegian album.
Love this song - in spite of them having to throw a Swede into it as well... ;o) ;o)
Anyone got any summer tunes they wanna share...?

People, we need your assistance:
My cat-loving friend rainbow_goddess

We mussssn´t let it happen, preciousss!!
You can read about the situation in her LJ here and she´s also set up a fund to which you´ll also find the link in her post:http://rainbow-goddess.livejournal.com/3041894.html?style=mine&nc=13#comments
Please please consider donating a little something if you can, and also please share the link so as many as possible see it?

Spring cleaning: The fanvids
It´s finally spring. YAY! :o)
So I´m basically spring-cleaning about, and I ended up sorting out my videos the other day. Since my fanvid debut, I´ve made 27 videos in total. Most of them are on my You Tube channel, but some of them I had to take down dues to copyrights. Some of them I´m pretty happy with, and some of them I think are rather craptastic. But I thought just for the hell of it, I´d post the three I´m probably most happy with:
I´m not sure if this sticktly qualifies as a fanvid, because it´s not particularly themed. I just wanted to share this song which I really really love, and I think the message of the song was worth sharing. Now, I made this video in late June 2011 and of course that message become even more important later that summer... that is also probably why this video is so dear to my heart.
Those of you who´ve known me for a while know that I was massively enthusiastic about fanvidding LOTR back then. In fact, I could have happily made LOTR fanvids to every single tune Secret Garden has ever made. But as of yet, I´ve only reached three videos, and this is the one I like the best.
I think this is the video on my channel with most views, so I have to put this up. And not sure how much credit I can take, because.... well it´s BRIDESHEAD! I just whacked the clips and the soundtrack from the series together and Bob´s your uncle!
So are there any other fanvidders our there who would like to share some of their vids? Would love to see them!
Or do you have any videos made by other which you could recommend?
Wasn´t only gonna toot my own horn though. My lovely Twitter friend Susana is a far better vidder than me, so go check out her channel:http://www.youtube.com/user/UberSYP/videos?view=0
She was even kind enough to made a few for me, and this is by far my fave:
And she made me an Immediate Music fan in the process. Skiing I kinda liked already ;o)
Have a lovely May all!
